Dramatic Winter Blooms

During March the phone rings off the hook! I love meeting new people and helping them with their garden plans. This week I visited a home not far from mine, to consult on a memorial garden.

As I approached the house I was absolutely smitten with the Red-Hot-Pokers (Kniphofia uvaria). I think they are the winter blooming variety “Winter Cheer”

I can not think of another possibility as it is still the end of winter and they certainly are cheerful!

A stronger word may be necessary. How about striking, spectacular or fabulous! Observing them really made my day. To top it off the very nice home-owner said I could dig up a clump if I would like to. You don’t have to ask me twice!

Imagine plants so happy that they bloom from the center of the rock. Thanks Donna!

What is blooming in your garden right now? anything noteworthy? How about sharing it with all of us!
