Hart Flat Native, Low Water Landscaping that Captures the View
Before & After
This beautiful home in Hart Flat has unique Craftsman architecture and great views. The landscaping just needed to let the house shine and frame what nature has provided. To do that we used long drifts of plants at the gate to usher you to down the driveway and bring you to the front of the home. As you park and walk up the path to the front door more detailed planting beds enhance the custom clinker brickwork noteworthy in Craftsman style homes. The large space has park-like dimensions yet feels intimate due to decomposed granite pathways that meander through large swaths of Creeping Native Sage, Dwarf Coyote Bush and Catmint that bring seasonal color and evergreen structure to the Oak tree wooded space. The pathways are punctuated by a sitting area designed to capture the view and a lounging area under a massive ancient oak tree that has huge branches that sweep the ground and give the spot a sense of enclosure. The outdoor dining area just off the back of the house sits alongside a little gem of a koi pond. Surrounded with sweeps of California native Sages and Deer Grass the outdoor dining table feels perfectly at ease in its surroundings. This landscape contributes to making the house feel at home in it’s Central Oak Woodland setting by the use of native and well adapted plants, that keep the home water-wise and low maintenance as well.
