Creating Usable Outdoor Living in Stallion Springs

Before & After

Olson before and after

Project Details

This mountain home in Stallion Springs was purchased by the current homeowners a few years ago, and over time they thoughtfully updated the interior and exterior of the house. As those improvements took shape, attention turned to the surrounding landscape, which offered a blank canvas but also presented several challenges including a steep slope, drainage concerns, and a lack of usable outdoor living space.

This portion of the landscape represents one phase of a larger landscape plan for the property. The goal was to create comfortable outdoor areas where the homeowners could relax and entertain while improving the flow around the house. It was also important that the design feel natural in the mountain setting and remain relatively low maintenance.

Retaining walls were introduced to reshape the slope and create usable space for a new concrete patio and gathering area. A paver entry now provides a welcoming approach to the side door, while updated steps built with landscape timbers and pavers improve circulation along the hillside. Artificial turf accents provide a clean green contrast to the surrounding natural terrain, and drainage improvements help manage water movement across the site. Bistro lighting adds warmth and extends the usability of the patio into the evening hours.

The finished landscape provides inviting outdoor spaces for relaxing and entertaining while blending naturally with the surrounding mountain environment.
