Bringing Beauty, Fun and Flow to this Bear Valley Landscape
Before & After
Project Details
The Walker’s contacted me to develop a landscape plan for their back yard that would eliminate lawn, create more entertaining space, screen the hot tub and incorporate a water feature and fire pit.
Designing all of those features in an awkwardly shaped small space posed quite a challenge, but I was excited to see what could be done to meet their wish list and solve their problems.
To solve the problem of camouflaging the spa I used a custom designed water feature made out of boulders, with a post and wire trellis on each side to further screen the private lounging area. As vines grow along the wire trellis the screening effect will increase.
This also works to visually divide the space and reduce the awkward feel.
A fire pit was planned on center with the water feature. A spacious seating area around the fire pit expands the entertaining space as does the seat wall installed around the perimeter of the yard. Using the same materials for the fire pit and the pathways visually expands the space making it feel open, relaxed and comfortable. The planting beds soften all the hardscape and bring all sorts of pollinators into the yard for the enjoyment of the clients. On any given day there is a chance to see butterflies and hummingbirds sipping nectar and enjoying the space along with their human counterparts.
