An outdated deck and a fountain that was not integrated into the yard were two of the big problems that we faced in this backyard renovation. To begin with the old deck had to go! Replacing it with a flagstone patio that seamlessly incorporated the fountain was a terrific solution for this problematic space.
Using dwarf Lavender ‘Hidcote’ around the fountain softened and accented the hardscape. The hillside viewed from the patio was strewn with boulders that emerged when the septic tank was replaced. They were tossed on the hillside without much thought to their placement.
Removing many of the boulders and digging niches for the rest gave the hillside the more natural appearance that we were going for. Planting natives and well adapted plants made this water wise landscape come to life! The fire pit is a favorite hangout of their college age children and their friends.
The family pet is provided for with a new enclosed doggy yard under the shade of one of the large Oak trees. The wood from the deck was reclaimed and turned into raised beds for veggies. At the top of the slope is a swing where the homeowners can relax and take in the view of their beautiful new backyard below.
